On Monday 8th June 2020, the Maltese Government announced another financial aid package aimed at economic regeneration. Amongst the numerous measures put in place to assist businesses in recovering from the impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government announced an updated Wage Supplement Scheme which is to take effect from July 2020 up until September 2020.

In terms of the said updated Wage Supplement Scheme, those businesses which operate in the areas of tourist accommodation, air transport, event organization, travel agencies and language schools will remain eligible to benefit from an entitlement of €800 for each worker employed on a full-time basis and an entitlement of €500 for each worker employed on a part-time basis.

With respect to those businesses who benefitted up to June 2020 from the previous Wage Supplements and were listed under Annex A but who do not operate in the areas of tourist accommodation, air transport, event organization, travel agencies and language schools will remain classified under Annex A but will now be entitled to a benefit of €600 for each worker employed on a full-time basis and a benefit of €375 for each worker employed on a part-time basis. Those pensioners and students who are in employment shall, in terms of this updated Wage Supplement Scheme, now fall under this new category.

Moreover, those self-employed individuals, businesses and those providing personal services who depend on local consumption will now be entitled to benefit from the supplement granted to those businesses found under Annex B. Additionally, those companies and self-employed individuals who were classified under Annex B will remain eligible for such benefit until September.
