Claude Micallef Grimaud

Claude Micallef Grimaud is a Senior Associate at Mamo TCV Advocates having first joined the firm in June 2008. His main area of practice includes advising and acting as counsel for foreign and local clients in all intellectual property matters (particularly Copyright cases, Anti-Counterfeiting actions and Trademark issues) including litigation, contract negotiation and drafting, registration procedures and licensing/franchising matters. Claude also acts as lead counsel in all matters relating to privacy and data protection and represents numerous international (and local) entities in such matters. Claude’s other specialist areas include all matters relating to Media law, Information Technology law, EU law, Contract law and Tort law the latter being a subject he also lectures at the University of Malta. Claude has published a number of academic articles both locally as well as abroad. Claude is also an examiner and supervisor of Doctor of Laws theses and Research Projects at the University of Malta. Claude also acts as counsel for clients in general civil and commercial matters.

GDPR Administrative Fines: New Guidelines Recently Adopted

On 25 May 2018, Regulation 2016/679, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect across the European Union (including Malta). As has been widely reported, infringement of the GDPR may lead to fines as high as €20,000,000 or 4% of an entity's total worldwide annual turnover (whichever is higher). Confirmed: Employers Should Not Use Consent as a Legal Basis for Processing Employee Personal Data

On 8 June 2017, the Article 29 Data Protection Working Party ("WP29") adopted Opinion 2/2017 on data processing at work ("the Opinion") ​ . This authoritative document complements previous WP29 publications on similar issues ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​. Mamo TCV Participates in Malta EU Presidency Conference on IPR Enforcement

On 2nd March 2017, an international conference on IPR enforcement was held at the Corinthia Hotel in St. George's Bay, St Julian's, Malta. The conference was organised by the Maltese Presidency of the EU Council, Malta Customs and the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights (EUIPO).
