The New Era of Pay Transparency in Malta:
Legal Obligations and Implications

Date: 7th July 2026
Event Venue: The Xara Lodge

Seminar Description

The EU Pay Transparency Directive marks a significant development in employment law across the European Union, introducing far-reaching obligations aimed at strengthening the principle of equal pay for equal work and addressing persistent gender pay disparities. Malta has implemented the Directive on 5 June 2026 by means of the Equal Pay (Transparency and Reporting) Regulations 2026.

This seminar will provide a comprehensive overview of the new regulatory framework and its practical implications for employers operating in Malta. Participants will gain insight into the evolving legal landscape, including transparency obligations during recruitment, employee rights to pay information, and the introduction of reporting and governance requirements around remuneration structures.

The session will begin with focused presentations outlining the key provisions of the new Maltese Regulations, including practical guidance on how employers should address the data protection implications arising from these new obligations. The presentation will be delivered by Dr Christine Calleja, Partner, Mamo TCV Advocates and Senior Associates Dr Warren Ciantar and Dr Jeanine Mallia Schembri. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring leading practitioners and policymakers, including the Director General of the Department for Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER), who will provide an enforcement and regulatory perspective, offering a multi-dimensional perspective on how pay transparency is reshaping organisational practices.

Who Should Attend

This seminar is particularly relevant for HR professionals, legal practitioners, in-house counsel, business leaders and decision-makers responsible for remuneration strategy and compliance, as well as company directors in light of the potential criminal law implications arising from breaches.

Maltese law also allows for the incorporation of cell companies that conduct shipping or aviation business, with each cell having distinct assets and liabilities and can therefore be used to carry out separate and distinct business from the core company and from the other cells. This is proving to be an indispensable tool for insurance companies, securitisation vehicles and investment companies.

Our dedicated Aviation Team within Mamo TCV has amassed considerable experience in all aspects of aviation law. Our firm has supported international clients in aircraft registration, leasing, purchase, operation, importation and litigation relating to aviation law. In fact, along the years, we have been retained by a number of clients including international financial institutions and public authorities, on a wide range of matters.
