Identity Malta Issues Update on Single Permit Applications

IDM

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Identity Malta had suspended all new single permit applications, barring those applications submitted under the Key Employee Initiative and by medical professionals. Nonetheless, third country nationals who were present in Malta and held a valid work permit were able to change their employer, irrespective of their application type.

Identity Malta has now stated that it will be re-opening its services and shall be accepting Single Permit applications as of 3rd August, 2020. All new applications will be subject to more scrutiny than before, with a large focus on labour market tests and any applicable legislation. Following the previous update, all applications are to be submitted online using Identity Malta's online portal.

All new applications will be granted without prejudice to the following:

  • -Further approval required by the Maltese Health Authorities;
  • -Visa requirements;
  • -Restrictions regarding travel to Malta;

In addition to the above update regarding new applications, Identity Malta has also made reference to expired approval letters in principle.Successful single permit applicants who hold an expired approval letter in principle, will receive communications with extended dates. Nonetheless, those who had previously applied for a visa which has now expired are to submit a new visa application. The opening of the visa centres depends on the general health situation in the country concerned.

Lastly, all those applications which were put on hold due to the COVID-19 outbreak in March shall be re-assessed while taking into consideration the labour market development and requirements.
