Mikiel Calleja is a senior associate in the corporate and finance practice of the firm. Mikiel’s main practice areas are mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, corporate finance and general corporate/commercial. As counsel to financial institutions and public and private companies, he has significant experience in corporate transactions and financing including local and cross border mergers, acquisitions and restructuring, related financing and security arrangements, private and public offerings of securities and often advises public companies on regulatory requirements. Mikiel is also regularly involved in various corporate and company law matters and has both assisted and managed in vendor and purchaser related legal due diligence.

Mikiel has recently also had a paper entitled “Piercing the Corporate Veil: Greening Companies’ Governance and Shareholder Activism” published in the peer reviewed IUCN Academy of Environmental Law Journal.
Petra Attard is a senior associate in the corporate and insurance law practice group of the firm. She regularly assists clients on corporate and regulatory matters involved in the insurance industry, including advice on corporate governance matters, legal and regulatory matters, compliance matters, as well as legal assistance in the establishment and MFSA authorisation process of insurance and reinsurance undertakings and intermediaries.

Petra also regularly assists clients in all corporate and commercial matters including advice on corporate governance matters, assistance with corporate financing, M&A transactions, voluntary dissolutions and various other corporate transactional projects.
Nicholas Micallef is a senior associate in the Investment Services department of the firm. He graduated from the University of Malta with a Doctor of Laws in 2010 following the submission of his doctoral thesis entitled ‘Closed-end funds as a vehicle for collective investment schemes in Malta. A critical evaluation’. Nicholas joined law firm GVTH Advocates as a trainee in 2004, before joining Simon Tortell and Associates as a trainee in 2008.

Nicholas was called to the Bar in January, 2011 following his appointment as an associate with Simon Tortell and Associates in 2010. Nicholas’ main areas of practice include the licensing of Collective Investments Schemes (UCITS, PIFs and AIFs) and Investment Services Providers, as well as compliance, governance, restructuring and winding-up of such entities.
Christian Tonna is a senior associate having experience in the Corporate, Gaming, and most recently been instrumental in the set up of the Firm’s Immigration Department.

His broad experience in these sectors, enables him to offer holistic and practical advice to all our High Net-Worth private clients, the portfolio of which has steadily grown through our increased focus on the Immigration market.

Immigration has also been very useful in attracting large corporate clients, looking to set up offices and employ local and foreign individuals within Maltese territory, with the Firm’s presence in this sector having also been strongly supported by other experts within complementing fields.

Private client work has also afforded Christian the opportunity to work in advising these individuals on acquisition and lease of Maltese immovable property and to also further contacts and experience within the local real-estate development network, having built relationships with all the reputable estate agencies and contractors.
Veronica Grixti is a Senior Associate within the firm. Her principal area of practice has been in certain aspects of insurance, inheritance, general commercial, corporate including liquidations and share transfers and property law. She has been actively involved in the drafting of agreements including but not limitedly promise of sale of property agreements, lease agreements, management agreements. She has also been involved in the restructuring of companies, debt collections, giving advice to leading insurance companies in Malta in connection with life insurance policies and professional indemnity claims, and in company secretarial matters.
