Joe Borg Bartolo is a partner in the corporate, insurance and general commercial practice group of the firm. As counsel to leading insurance companies and insurance brokers operating both in the Maltese and European markets he has gained invaluable experience in the insurance field generally. He is involved in several immovable property transactions on a continuous basis, mainly in the commercial property sector.
With a wide array of commercial clients he is mostly well known for blending legal knowledge and advice with practical commercial experience and expedience necessary in order to get the deal done. He is also very experienced in dispute resolution and has acted in a number of instances to resolve issues without the necesity of allowing the matter to be contested in judicial fora.
Jonathan Tonna is an associate in MamoTCV’s Intellectual Property Department. He has practiced for close to 5 years under the guidance of the IP team, first as a young trainee, then as a fully-fledged associate. During his time at the firm, Jonathan has advised and assisted clients on various IP matters. His experience ranges across every major IP field. He has helped young innovators and entrepeneurs further their business aspirations with sound IP strategy. He assisted artists, performers and other members of the creative industry safeguard their copyright and related rights, and has conducted trademark prosecution at the behest of some of the largest international brands.
Jonathan is also a member of the firm’s Litigation team, and handles a variety of IP-related claims, including the disposal of infringing merchandise that regularly passes through Maltese Customs, proceedings for the protection or invalidation of potentially conflicting trademarks and the protection of copyright and related rights.
Katya Tua heads the Investment Services department of the firm. She was called to the Bar in 2002 and joined the law firm GVTH Advocates as an associate in the same year. She joined Simon Tortell and Associates as a founding partner in 2009.She advises primarily international clients in the incorporation and licensing of all types of collective investment schemes including UCITS, alternative investment funds (“AIFs) and professional investor funds (“PIFs”).
She also advises on the drafting and negotiation of associated documentation as well as on all ongoing legal support work that collective investment schemes require, particularly regulatory compliance Katya’s regulatory experience also includes the structuring and operations of asset management and administrators.
Christian Tonna is a senior associate having experience in the Corporate, Gaming, and most recently been instrumental in the set up of the Firm’s Immigration Department.
His broad experience in these sectors, enables him to offer holistic and practical advice to all our High Net-Worth private clients, the portfolio of which has steadily grown through our increased focus on the Immigration market.
Immigration has also been very useful in attracting large corporate clients, looking to set up offices and employ local and foreign individuals within Maltese territory, with the Firm’s presence in this sector having also been strongly supported by other experts within complementing fields.
Private client work has also afforded Christian the opportunity to work in advising these individuals on acquisition and lease of Maltese immovable property and to also further contacts and experience within the local real-estate development network, having built relationships with all the reputable estate agencies and contractors.
